It is great the Google has joined the world of social media with Google+. The Google +1 button is similar to the Facebook like button. If your Google profile is a public profile then people would be able to see what you have recommended. If your Google profile is set to private then this is a great way for you to have an online bookmark of your favourite website.
Speaking as a developer, I like the fact that Google +1 button is only supported by the latest browsers. If more web apps followed this trend it would be a great way to get users to keep their browsers up to date, which is every developers dream. What I do find strange however is the fact it doesn’t work on Android devices (and iPhone).
I haven’t yet tested on all browsers/devices but from initial research the following browsers are supported by Google +1 buttons:
- Windows: Chrome, Firefox 3.6, Internet Explorer 8, Internet Explorer 9
- Linux : Chrome, Firefox 3.6
- Mac: Chrome, Firefox 3.6, Safari 4
